Sue, Sue, Sue: We are suing the wrong people

By Eleanor French Spreitzer (Columbus, Ohio. Email: Thinkaboutitnow@msn.com)

Our kids are too fat - sue McDonalds.

No. Sue our inept government - National and Local. The people running Congress and other National and Local aspects of government are so inept and foolish and saddest of all - uncaring - they have raised taxes so high that the average family must have both father and mother working outside the home just to keep the home. No Mother in the house to start a healthy well balanced dinner meal at 3:30 in the afternoon.

No - Mother is in the office or some other - any-place-but-home, at 3:30 in the afternoon - she grabs the kids from daycare at 5:30 - and drives to a fast-food window at 5:45 and throws whatever was put in the bag on the table at 6:15. The table wasn't "set" with care or attraction. The food wasn't thought out and prepared with health and growth in mind. No one knows for sure what is in the food from the bag. The subject of "Home Ec" has been ridiculed and laughed out of High Schools - who would have the guts to take it if it were offered?

The father of the home (if there is one) is probably in a bad uncommunicative mood - after all he probably feels he is underpaid etc., that's why his wife has to work. However, he sometimes helps out and drives to the fast food window himself. Everyone in the family knows - consciously or unconsciously that things are out of control. I have read stress actually causes fat cells to kick in.

The government is so inept at protecting our kids from all sorts of predators - the parents don't dare send them out to play without an armed guard. This would be after dinner - remember the kids aren't home before dinner. Or if they are latch-key kids and come home right after school, they are warned again and again - not to leave the house and not to let anyone in. They are probably told not to answer the phone or door. (By the way - rich and powerful women working outside the home do indeed have armed guards and in-home-cooks to take care of their children and meals. The National Organization for Women pretend that ALL WOMEN working outside of home have this same help. WHAT A CROCK).

Before dinner what do these latch-key kids do - they sit at home in front of the TV eating (junk food or healthful food - who should teach them which - McDonalds???) if the parents are lucky - the kids sit at a table and do their homework eating junk food or healthful food. Whatever they are doing - they are not running around the neighborhood, riding bikes, skipping rope, playing hide and seek or kick the can. No. There is no grown-up protection available. All the grown-ups are working to pay exorbitant taxes and other expenses - it costs money to work outside the home - two cars - insurance for two cars - more clothes - more fast food meals - on and on. More Stress. More Fat for Everyone.

Why sue McDonalds? Because McDonalds has a lot of money and some trial attorneys would like to have a lot of it. No other reason.
